1 surprising Japanese SUV brand has the worst drivers
I was shocked to learn about which SUV brand has the worst drivers. Probably because the brand is Subaru and it has a reputation for safety. So are the SUVs or are the drivers to blame for all of these accidents?
Subaru owners are the worst SUV drivers
To be fair, Subaru has more than just SUVs. They’re also known for cars, but still, Subaru drivers rank in third place for being the worst.
Technically, Tesla has the worst drivers overall, but they have cars, SUVs, and a truck. Plus, they’re electric with their own set of ridiculous issues. For example, the autopilot system can’t detect if someone is sitting in the driver’s seat or not.
Then Ram is in second place for having the most bad drivers. But when you think of Ram, you think of big trucks.
LendingTree looked at insurance inquiries for 30 automotive brands between January 1 and December 31, 2024. They rated brands to determine which ones had the most bad drivers based on incidents per 1,000 drivers.
The incidents include tickets, DUIs, accidents, and citations. Subaru drivers had 32.85 incidents per 1,000 drivers. Ram had 33.92 and Tesla had 36.94.
But why are Subaru owners the worst SUV drivers? Its commercials promote safety and act like you’ll pass your Subie down to your grandkid.
The 2024 Subaru Forester earned the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety Top Safety Pick award, but didn’t get the Top Safety Pick+ title. The Crosstrek and Outback also fell short, but the Ascent didn’t.
So Subaru SUVs are pretty safe, but not as safe as some Hyundai, Kia, and Mazda alternatives. I’m going to have to blame the drivers and the SUVs.
