The full-size pickup truck vehicle segment is one of the most competitive segments in the industry. A new Ford electric pickup truck is completely changing the game and consumers’ understanding of utility.

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning can transform into a backup generator thanks to its unique powertrain. No, not transform like Optimus Prime. Instead, the F-150 Lighting lends its battery capacity to homes using Ford Intelligent Backup Power.

Ford Intelligent Backup Power is an F-150 Lightning feature that activates when the electric truck is connected to your home’s 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro. The F-150 Lightning Extended Range model can power a home for up to 10 days when power is rationed.

Leave it to the Blue Oval to get the most utility out of its first electric pickup truck. Ford CEO Jim Farley even joked that the F-150 Lightning could charge Teslas, insinuating that Ford’s EV is superior. It’s too early to tell whether or not the F-150 Lightning is a better electric vehicle than popular Tesla models. One thing is for certain. Only one full-size American pickup truck on the market can power a home in a blackout.

The F-150 Lightning comes with many novel features like Pro Power Onboard. This feature allows the electric truck to power multiple devices and accessories simultaneously using outlets in the EV’s bed, frunk, and cabin.

Ford’s electric pickup has enormous potential, whether you’re powering a saw outdoors for some DIY home improvement or making a smoothie at a campsite. The F-150 Lightning is truly one of a kind.
