Electric SUVs have made enormous strides since their inception. They’ve become larger, more versatile, with improved range and function. Because of their technological advances, they’ve also become more expensive. Still, there is one electric SUV under $50,000 that stands out, according to Consumer Reports. Here’s why the 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric is one SUV you just might want to seriously consider.

Consumer Reports loves the 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric

The 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric is a fantastic SUV. Even though it’s considerably more expensive than the regular Hyundai Kona, it’s still a pretty good deal compared to other electric SUVs. Starting at just $34,000, Consumer Reports says that “The Kona Electric is one of the best electric vehicles (EV) under $50,000 that we’ve tested.” Although Consumer Reports only gives the Kona Electric a 61/100, it’s a good rating for an inexpensive electric SUV.

In addition to being a stylish and unique electric SUV, the Kona Electric’s functionality cannot be overstated. “It blends an enjoyable driving experience with practicality,” according to Consumer Reports. It is worth noting that Consumer Reports wasn’t super impressed by the Kona Electric’s ride. In fact, Consumer Reports calls it “stiff.” Still, it is easy to get in and out of.

The Kona Electric may even be better than the regular Kona

If you like the 2022 Hyundai Kona, you’ll love the Hyundai Kona EV. Like the regular Kona, the electric version is small and easy to maneuver. It has a decent amount of storage space for a small SUV, and Consumer Reports points out that the electric version’s battery doesn’t interfere with that.

In addition, “the EV doesn’t have the gas-powered Kona’s deficiencies, including its sluggish acceleration and loud engine noise.” It’s a nice and quiet SUV, an improvement over an SUV that’s already pretty decent.

The Hyundai Kona EV has good range

The 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric comes with a lot of great attributes, like a 201-hp electric motor, a respectable range of 258 miles, and a stellar warranty. The warranty on the 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric lasts for ten years and up to 100,000 miles. Considering most electric vehicle batteries last at least up to eight years, this warranty shows the confidence that Hyundai has in the lithium-ion battery it produces for its electric vehicles.

In addition to the excellent range, the 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric also comes with a 10.3-inch digital gauge display and has a couple of trim levels to choose from. Each of these trim levels offers various options that allow you to customize the Kona Electric exactly how you want it, while also letting you add some luxury to your electric SUV.

Overall, the 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric is an excellent and affordable SUV. While there may be electric SUVs with better reliability and road test scores, the Kona Electric’s price tag and maneuverability make this an SUV you should at least consider, especially if you’re on a budget.
